Four residents were displaced following an early morning fire in Bridgewater.
Fire officials say that at approximately 7 a.m. Friday, crews responded to a call reporting a fire in the attic at 596 Main St.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the attic of the 2.5-story wood frame home from a fire that extended through the first and second floors on one side of the structure.
Officials say the home was built around 1900 with what is known as a “Balloon Frame,” and the fire was able to easily spread between walls and “at an accelerated pace.”
Two residents were home at the time of the fire, but were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived and firefighters found two cats in the home, and were able to bring them outside to safety.
There were no injuries were reported
The fire was knocked down and the scene was cleared by 9:15 a.m. but the home sustained extensive smoke and water damage and four residents are currently displaced.
East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater provided mutual aid
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Department.
