One person has died following a crash in Hingham on Sunday afternoon.
Hingham Police say that at 4:43 p.m. they received a call about a car that was “all over the road” while driving westbound on Lincoln St. (Rte. 3A).
The car crashed at the intersection of Shipyard Dr. as officers were heading to the scene and they found the driver trapped inside.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene and there were no passengers in the car.
A preliminary investigation has determined that the 2014 BMW had been driving west on Lincoln St., drove across Shipyard Drive, onto the sidewalk and struck the base of a large traffic signal post on Shipyard Dr.
Police say pieces of the car were sent across Lincoln St. as well onto a grassy area along Lincoln St. as a result of the crash.
The pieces then started a grass fire which was extinguished by the Hingham Fire Department.
There were no other cars that were damaged in the crash.
This portion of Lincoln St. remained closed until 9:15 p.m. while the scene was investigated.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hingham Police and the State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
