A new interim leader has been named for the Massachusetts State Police.
The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that Lieutenant Colonel John E. Mawn, Jr. was appointed Interim Colonel, effective Friday.
Mawn served as Commander of the Division of Investigative Services, which investigates homicides and other violent crime, crimes against children, narcotics offenses, cybercrime, and organized crime investigations.
The Administration says that under Mawn’s leadership several new trainings were launched to enhance investigations, increase police accountability, and implement new strategies to advance neighborhood safety.
The Division achieved a 97% homicide solve rate.
Mawn succeeds Colonel Christopher Mason, who retired on Friday after a 40-year career in law enforcement.
The Healey-Driscoll Administration says they are “finalizing plans to establish a comprehensive search process to identify and review prospective candidates for the next Massachusetts State Police Colonel.”
