In Plymouth, DPW Director Jonathan Beder officially resigned on January 30, after having been on leave for about two weeks prior to that time.
Town Manager Derek Brindisi talks about Beder’s role in the operation of the DPW during his dozen years of leadership there, the work of the DPW during Beder’s recent absence, and what comes next.

Town Manager Derek Brindisi says that during the past couple of weeks…
“…the Department of Public works, under the leadership of Sheila Sgarzi, the Acting DPW Director, formerly the Assistant DPW Director, has been continuing on with all the different multi-million dollar projects that we have in town, with the sewer interceptor project that continues down on Water Street. We have the flood wall barrier project that’s continuing down on Water Street as well—amongst many other projects that are already in the queue.”
And Brindisi acknowledges the contribution of the former DPW Director:
“I mean, JB, as we all have come to know him—he’s really the person that has kind of set the road-map for all of the infrastructure improvements here in town over the past 12 years,” said Brindisi.
Going forward, the Town Manager says:
“We’re actually in the process of doing an analysis of the DPW Operations, looking at its strengths, looking at its weaknesses and looking at opportunities that we can kind of enhance the existing work of the DPW,” said Brindisi. “Once that’s completed—and I’m thinking probably mid to late spring, at that point, then I think we’ll be ready to advertise for a permanent DPW Director.”
