A warrant has been issued for a man accused of running a “crypto currency mine.”
Nadeam Nahas, a former employee of the Cohasset school system facilities department, reportedly ran the operation inside a school crawl space, and by doing so, allegedly stole about $18,000 worth of electricity over a period of several months.
“Crypto currency mining” is a process by which the transactions are kept secure and it requires large amounts of electricity to achieve.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office says Nahas failed to appear for his arraignment Thursday on charges of fraudulent use of electricity and vandalizing a school and a default warrant was issued for his arrest.
The DA’s office says they subsequently learned that defense counsel Michael McCarthy, of East Boston, had sent a motion, earlier this month, to continue the case to a March arraignment date.
However, that motion was only brought forward to the court after the warrant was issued and the motion to continue was denied and the default warrant was left in place.
