***UPDATE: LARRY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!
Meet Larry! Larry is a 7-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. He is approximately 80 pounds and in good health. Larry was thrown the biggest curveball of his life and we’re on a mission here at WATD to help him find his forever home.
Larry’s owner from Scituate passed away suddenly over the summer. He and Larry lived a quiet life and were quite bonded. Larry went to work with his dad at the construction site every day and they walked the beach in the evenings. When his dad passed, he was alone in the home with him until a call was placed and first responders arrived. He stood guard in front of the bedroom door to protect his beloved human and was then was taken to a shelter never seeing him again.
Larry was pulled from the shelter by CARE Southcoast Animal Rescue in Acushnet. Over the past 8 months the rescue has worked tirelessly to find Larry a home with no luck. He is set to lose his foster home at the end of March and there is nowhere for him to go. To help you, and Larry, he will come to his new home with a crate, toys, a bed and endless support.
About Larry – he is a sweet, sensitive, loving dog once you are in his circle of trust. He is perfect outside the home, walks well on leash (he is a strong boy), loves car rides (as long as he can sit next to you), and is all around friendly. When he is in the home and gains a bit of confidence, he has a couple weeks where establishing boundaries and working with his guarding tendencies can prove to be a bit difficult. This is short term management and Larry will soften as the days go by and you will have a fun, happy, loving, obedient friend. Larry will still be protective of the home but with the help of his trainer and rescue advocates, teaching him how to make new friends is absolutely possible!
He needs a patient, routine-driven person or couple who will help Larry work through any issues that arise, and know that with consistency they will break through to a wonderful companion. Large breed or Rhodesian experience would be a huge help! Larry does not do well with other animals or children.
If interested in learning more about Larry, please email caredogvolunteers@gmail.com. Larry’s adoption fee is sponsored. If in the location of his trainer (anywhere within an hour outside of Foxboro), she is there for full support and lessons will be sponsored by the rescue. The Arlington Food Pantry has offered free food and toys to his adopter — there’s a literal army behind this boy! He is very loved and will there will be no lack of support throughout the life of Larry for him and his new family. Please, join Team Larry, share this post and help us find Larry his forever home!
