A man has entered a guilty plea in connection to a 2020 killing in Brockton.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says 31-year-old Takari Elliot pleaded guilty on Friday to one count each of Manslaughter and Attempted Assault and Battery by Discharge of a Firearm.
The incident occurred on October 13, 2020 when 25-year-old Manuel Duarte was shot and killed in Brockton.
Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. As a result, investigators obtained arrest warrants charging Elliot and Marvin Veiga with the homicide.
Elliot was located by police and placed under arrest.
Veiga was shot and killed by a Metro Nashville, Tennessee Police Department officer in April, 2021, after he advanced on the officer brandishing a large butcher knife in each of his hands.
Judge William Sullivan sentenced Elliot to serve 3-5 years in state prison, to be followed by two years probation.
