In a news conference at the 1820 Court House, town and state officials gathered to celebrate the award. Keiko Matsudo Orrall is Executive Director of the state Office of Travel and Tourism:
“This is a grant announcement for the travel and tourism season extension grant that was awarded by the federal money for communities across the Commonwealth for marketing efforts between November and April,” said Orrall. “And, it’s an opportunity to really tell people that Massachusetts is a four-season destination.”
See Plymouth’s Lea Filson says the grant money allows a greater marketing effort:
“Up until now we’ve only had enough funding really, to really effectively advertise in New England,” said Filson. “Now, with this type of funding we can go outside to all of the markets of people that come regularly to bring more and more of them in.”
State Rep. Matt Muratore:
“To have the shoulder season being marketed—of everything that goes on–there’s a lot of things that do go on in the winter that people don’t really know about,” said Muratore. “But for this grant to actually market for that and get people here over the next couple of shoulder seasons—it’s terrific.”
