Memorial Day Events Around the South Shore

Memorial Day events around the South Shore: 

Abington – Ceremony to take place at 9 a.m. on Monday inside the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Braintree – Flags of our Families” tribute at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Safety complex at 2015 Washington St. Memorial Day observance 11 a.m. Sunday at the Blue Hill Cemetery in the Garden of Honor.

Bridgewater – A ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Town Common.

Brockton – The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Monday, from the War Memorial Building (156 West Elm Street), proceeding South on Newbury Street, East onto Belmont Street, North onto Main Street, East on Crescent Street, North on the VFW Parkway, ending at the City Hall Amphitheater. A ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Carver – Memorial parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on Monday

Cohasset – Healing field dedication at 1 p.m. on Saturday, reception for Lieutenant General Christopher Mahoney, USMC, on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Legion Post. Breakfast at 7 a.m. Monday. Ceremonies to follow at 8 a.m., from the Legion Post, to the Green Gate Cemetery and West Corner Memorial, Woodside Cemetery and Gold Star Mothers Memorial, to the Beechwood Cemetery. Between 10-10:30, linking up at the South Shore Music Circus, to the Central Cemetery, POW/MIA Square, with a noon arrival at the harbor and Veterans Memorial Park, where a formal ceremony will take place.

East Bridgewater – For the 155th commemoration of Memorial Day, ceremonial exercises will take place on the Town Common at 10 a.m. on Monday. Following the ceremony, a family-style chicken barbeque will be held at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club.

Halifax –The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Halifax Country Club and head toward the Town Hall. The official ceremony will begin once everyone arrives from the parade. Participants include the Silver Lake Marching Band, and essay contest winners from 5th and 6th grade students.

Hanover – The parade starts on Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Church, and ends at the Veterans Memorial. Participants will include the Hanover High School Marching Band. The route includes remembrances at the Center Cemetery, Town Hall, and the World War II Memorial at the Sylvester School. Formal ceremony to follow at the Veterans Memorial (495 Hanover Street), with remarks from veterans and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Hanson- parade will start at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Indian Head School on Liberty St. where there will be a brief opening ceremony with the flag being honored and lowered to half-mast with an Honor Guard salute and conclude at Fern Hill Cemetery on High Street. The parade will then march on Liberty St., stopping at the Town Hall to post a wreath and gun salute at the Civil War monument, and then proceed to Fern Hill Cemetery for a ceremony that will include readings and patriotic honors.

Hingham – The annual observance takes place on Monday at 11 a.m. at Town Hall. The principal speaker for the ceremony will be former Secretary of Veterans Services, Cheryl Poppe, Ret. Colonel of the United States Army.

Holbrook – The Holbrook Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holbrook Town Hall.

Hull – Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, Monday, May 29, 2023 – 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at the Village Cemetery

Kingston – The parade kicks off of at 10 a.m. at the World War II Memorial (across from the Cancun restaurant), proceeding onto Landing Road, Main Street, Green Street, and Evergreen Street. A ceremony will follow on the Town Hall lawn. A free community cookout will take place after the ceremony. 

Marshfield – Remembrance ceremonies start at 7:30 a.m. on Monday at the Winslow Cemetery, the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Marshfield Hills Cemetery, and the Couch Cemetery. The parade forms at 10 a.m. at the Library Plaza, proceeds onto Ocean Street, and to the Veterans’ Memorial Park. A formal ceremony will follow at 11 a.m.

Middleborough- The Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday from the Town Hall parking lot with a ceremony to follow at the War Memorial Park in front of Town Hall.

Milton- Ceremonies begin at 10:45 a.m. on Monday at Town Hall. After a wreath-laying ceremony, the main ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Milton Cemetery. The featured speaker is U.S. Navy Seabees Senior Chief Constructionman Senior Chief Petty Officer Dan Yaccarin. 

Norwell – The parade will muster at the UCC Church on 460 Main Street on Monday at 9:30 a.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m. will proceed to the town common, where formal ceremonies will take place. 

Pembroke – The parade is canceled due to roadway construction. A ceremony will be held Monday at the Veterans Park in front of the First Church in Pembroke, starting at 10 a.m. 

Plymouth – The parade steps off at Memorial Hall at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, heading down Memorial Drive, turning left onto Water Street, left onto South Park Street, and left onto Court Street. The parade will stop in front of Memorial Hall for opening remarks, and a laying of the wreath at the WWII Memorial. The parade will head South on Route 3A, with stops at the Korean and Vietnam Memorials on the lawn of the Courthouse, where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place. A ceremony will take place on the Training Green, and a Sea Dedication will follow at the State Pier. 

Quincy – The parade begins Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Quincy Credit Union, 100 Quincy Ave., continuing along Hancock Street, ending at the United First Parish Church. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the tombs of the Presidents. An observance ceremony will be held at the Hancock-Adams Common, between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m.

Randolph – A veterans’ Sunday service will be held at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 519 N. Main St. There will then be a ceremony at the Oakland Cemetery at noon with a 1 p.m. ceremony in remembrance of Jewish veterans at Linwood Memorial Park, 490 North St.

On Memorial Day the Randolph Elks will have a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the Memorial in front of Town Hall. Then at 9 a.m. the Town of Randolph and Veterans Council Ceremony will begin at the War Memorial with U.S. Navy Commander John Benda as the featured speaker.

All units will then meet up at the parking lot next to Zapustas Rink for a march to St. Mary’s and Central Cemetery where a ceremony will be held at Central Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. and at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Rockland – The Memorial Day Observance and Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the Rockland Veterans Memorial on Taunton St. and will include a Grand Marshall, a guest speaker, Gold Star Family honors, several persons reading patriotic tributes, and the Rockland High School Band. Rockland Fire and Police Honor Guards will also be participating, as well as other community members. The U.S. flag will also be flying from Rockland Fire ladder trucks. Parking will be available in the school parking lot.

Scituate – Ceremonies start at 8 a.m. Monday with a flotilla from the Harbormaster’s Office, honoring those “Lost at Sea.” The parade forms at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. The parade will proceed down First Parish Road to Lawson Common, where a ceremony will start at 11:15 a.m. 

Weymouth – A ceremony will take place Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Korean War Memorial, in Jackson Square. The parade starts at 10:15 a.m., from Jackson Square to Town Hall. The main program takes place at 11 a.m. at the Ralph Talbot Amphitheatre.   

West Bridgewater – The Memorial Day Commemorative Service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the War Memorial Park and will include an invocation and benediction by Pastor John Riccio of West Bridgewater New England Baptist Church, with speeches by Town Moderator Jason Ross and Selectman Anthony Kinahan. There will also be a  flag raising by the West Bridgewater Boy Scouts, with Taps performed by Nathan Trott, and a wreath laying.
