A paraprofessional at Hobomock Elementary School in Pembroke is on paid administrative leave after a student accessed a small amount of edible cannabis.
School Superintendent Erin Obey says Friday morning, a student opened the staff member’s backpack and removed the edibles.
Staff members immediately reported the incident. Though the child appeared unaffected, they were transported to South Shore hospital for evaluation.
It is not believed the child ingested the substance.
The child’s parents were contacted, along with Pembroke Police and the Department of Children and Families. The employee is on paid leave pending an investigation.
The schools operate under a drug-free workplace policy – where use of drugs or alcohol on school property is strictly prohibited.
“We remain deeply committed to protecting all of our students and staff and maintaining safe, healthy learning environments,” said Obey.
