In Plymouth, Town Moderator Steven Triffletti is planning to appoint a Charter Review Committee.
This committee differs from an elected Charter Review Commission, in that a Charter Review Committee does not have the authority to change the form of government.
However, it can make a recommendation to Town Meeting to change the form of government. Bobbi Clark has more:
Town Moderator Steven Triffletti says that under the current Charter, there is a requirement…
“…that at least once every five years a Charter Review Committee shall review the charter, make a report with recommendations to Town Meeting concerning any proposed amendments which the committee may determine to be necessary or desirable.”
And Triffletti says, there was a review committee appointed at least five years ago…
“…and they did present a report. More recently we’ve had a Charter Review Commission and since the annual Town Election that was recently held, there have been many people who have made the request that we consider having a Charter Review Committee formed.”
This in order that..
“…the Committee might review and possibly propose certain provisions that were contained in the Charter Review Commission’s proposed charter.”
The Town Moderator says:
“The Charter Review Committee Appointment Committee is appointed by a special committee consisting of the Moderator, who serves as chair, one member of the Select Board, and one member of the Committee of Precinct Chairs.”
Anyone interested in serving on the Charter Review Committee should submit a letter of intent and email it to: CharterReview@plymouth-ma.gov.
