A rally was held in front of the State House on Wednesday in support of Ollie’s Law which calls for statewide standards on the so-called “doggie day care industry” in Massachusetts.
State Rep. Brian Ashe is one of the bill’s co-sponsors.
State Sen. Jacob Oliveira says the bill would also create a registry of dog care facilities.
Amy Baxter of Longmeadow advocated for the measures after her dog, Ollie, died in 2020 after being attacked in a doggie day care facility where he sustained broken bones and over 100 bites.
Jeni Mather, of JM Pet Resort in Brockton, said that this legislation would provide more clarity for those who work in the industry.
A redrafted version of the bill was filed by State Representative Brian Ashe and State Senator Mark Montigny and is currently before the Municipalities Committee.
