In Plymouth, State Senator Susan Moran convened a substance use discussion at the main library on May 5, to allow experts from law enforcement self-help groups, medical experts, and schools to discuss various kinds of treatment.
This, in order to exchange ideas about what’s working and what is not when substance abuse occurs.

Senator Moran explains that it’s important to her to allow such a group to speak before her, a member of the legislature…
“…who’s very interested in where to put the funding from the lawsuit that now Governor Maura Healey, participated in,” said Moran. “That was a class action against drug-makers for making dangerous drugs available—especially to youth, who then used them, and many of which have died, sadly.”
Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald struck a positive note:
“In corrections and in law enforcement in general, we are starting to get a much better handle on the substance use crisis that’s going on. DA Cruz and I have worked together for many years, since 2015, on a drug use task force,” said McDonald. “Here in Plymouth County our numbers are much, much better than other places in the state.”
Dr. Sarah Bagley spoke about treatment and prevention:
“The important points that I wanted to bring home today is that we need to be insuring that we have our focus on youth who might be at risk for overdose and sort of thinking about how we want to make sure that overdose education is reaching youth as well as our adult population.”
