Marshfield Police say three people helped an officer arrest an unruly suspect, who was accused of fleeing the scene of a crash.
On Saturday around 5 p.m., police responded to the area of Ferry Street and Clay Pit Road for a report of a crash.
A vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, and passed by a responding officer. The vehicle was pursued near Furnace Street, and turned into a parking lot on Plain Street.
With heavy damage to the vehicle, the officer went to check on the operator, identified as 38-year-old James Michael Shields of Marshfield.
Police say Shields started to walk away from the vehicle, ignoring commands to stop. He swore at the officer, and began pulling away when the officer tried to gain control of him.
Three people jumped in to help the officer, who got Shields into handcuffs after an extended struggle. He continued to kick, and spit as other officers responded to the scene.
At the police station, he threatened to kill an officer and his family, along with making other threats to officers.
Shields is facing a long list of charges that include OUI Liquor, Five counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, and Reckless Operation.
He was set to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court. Bail was set at $10,000 on Saturday evening.
