A Dorchester man has died after being struck by a train in Wareham Thursday afternoon.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says that 56-year-old Christopher Cater was fishing along Mass Coastal railroad tracks near Route 6 and Route 28.
He was struck by the train at around 2:19 p.m. as it crossed the Narrows Crossing Bridge.
Cater was pushed into the water below the bridge.
First responders pulled him out of the water and he was transported to Tobey Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The DA’s Office says that the Mass Coastal trash train was travelling at around 25 miles per hour, all barriers were properly functioning, and that the horn was sounded repeatedly.
The conductor and train engineer both remained on scene.
