A new trial date has been set in the Emanuel Lopes Trial.
Lopes is accused of killing Weymouth Police Sgt. Michael Chesna and 77-year-old Vera Adams on July 15, 2018.
He allegedly struck Chesna with a rock while being arrested for driving erratically and vandalizing a home, then taking Chesna’s gun and shooting him eight times.
Lopes is then accused of shooting Adams while she was sitting on her porch.
The case ended in a mistrial on July 10 at Norfolk Superior Court when the jury was unable to reach a verdict following three weeks of testimony and days of deliberation.
There was a hearing on Friday morning to determine a new trial date and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office confirms to WATD News that trial is now scheduled to begin on January 8, 2024.
