In Plymouth, the Community Preservation Committee, or CPC, on June 29th, hosts its annual open forum for public input—an opportunity for residents to suggest changes and additions on the application process for CPA funds for the coming year. But instead, the focus became an effort to funnel CPA funds into the town’s Affordable Housing Trust.

Town officials were also present among the crowd in attendance at the 1820 Court House. Town Manager Derek Brindisi: “There was a great conversation around affordable housing and the town’s goal of trying to achieve that 10% mark. The 10% goal was set by the State, through statute—and so, that’s a very difficult goal.”
Select Board member Kevin Canty also focused on affordable housing and suggested that…“…if projects don’t come in of their own accord that are approved by the CPC, through the regular process, at the end of the year, that they put the remaining money into the Affordable Housing Trust. “
Kathy Dunn Chairs the Affordable Housing Trust: “I thanked the CPC for partnering with the Affordable Housing Trust to create 52, deed restricted affordable units of rental in the Town of Plymouth. Some of the statistics in the application, I asked that they be updated for their new application, because we are making progress in creating affordable housing.”
CPC Chairman Bill Keohan: “There is a housing crisis in Plymouth and we’re trying to address it. We’re listening to all the different organizations to come forward with ideas. We’re willing to partner with anyone who wants to create affordable housing in this town.”
The next meeting of the CPC is at 6 p.m. at Town Hall on July 13th.
