In Plymouth, history will be made this weekend as the American Cruise Lines ship, American Eagle, the first cruise ship to enter the harbor, docks at Town Wharf on Saturday for an overnight stay. This, according to Lea Filson of See Plymouth.

“What you’re going to see is a down-sized cruise ship that is going to sail into Plymouth Harbor. It’s smaller than the big, huge ships that we see parked outside of New York and Boston and places like that. This will come in and because it’s smaller it allows it to get into smaller ports.”
And there’s a reason Plymouth Harbor can accommodate these ships:
“We accommodate a lot more than we used to because our legislators were kind enough to help us to get the money to dredge the harbor for 2020. And because we got that dredged harbor we can now fit cruise ships.”
And, Filson says, a welcoming committee, including State Representatives Kathy LaNatra and Matt Muratore, will greet the 100 or so American Eagle passengers and a number of excursions will be available to the visitors:
“One of the excursions is a trip to Plymouth Pawtuxet Museum, another is to come right onto a bus and go and have six stops all around from Water Street to Court and all around the circle of our historic district.”
This is the first of three American Eagle visits:
“This will come in three times this season. It’ll come in this Saturday, the following Saturday, and the following one after that.”
