It’s hard to argue that anybody scored a bigger opening week win than the Hanover Hawks.
Marching into Duxbury and coming away with a win is tough enough for any opponent. Just one team (Franklin) has beaten the Dragons at home in the last three seasons, and just two (Bridgewater-Raynham) have in the last six. Going into Thursday night, eleven straight teams had tried, and eleven straight had failed.
It has become an even taller task for Patriot League opponents. Duxbury had been spotless for 16 years, whether at home or on the road. Their last regular season loss to a Patriot League opponent came in Hingham on October 27, 2007.
That’s 5,794 days since someone accomplished what Hanover was able to last night.

Setting aside the historical significance of slaying the Dragon, starting 1-0 and kicking off the 2023 campaign with a win over an opponent in a higher division is a boon for Hanover’s future power ranking.
You won’t catch the Hawks basking in their win, though. For Hanover, it’s on to the next one.
Vinny Mancini, Ben Scalzi, Mehki Bryan, John McDonald, and John Regan joined the Sports Exchange on Sunday night to discuss remaining grounded after the big win, and taking things a week at a time.
