In Plymouth, Selectman Chair Dick Quintal attended the Select Board meeting of the 12th in person and chaired the meeting as well.
During the past several weeks, he’s missed two meetings and attended via Zoom a couple of times and in some cases did not chair the meeting. Also, Quintal was dressed casually, not suited up as is his usual custom.
At one point he mentioned that his casual dress was for “health reasons.”
WATD’s Bobbi Clark asked him about this:
Selectman Chairman Dick Quintal:
“Back in April, right before Easter, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
And Quintal says, following the election in May,
“I announced that I would do the chairmanship for one year and that I have to lean on my vice chairman more than I normally would because I had some health issues.”
And those health issues resulted in an operation for prostate cancer on…
“…the 16th of last month, August.”
And the reason for the casual dress
“I have some incisions that are still healing and any kind of pressure—agitate it. You know if I can ever be of any help to any other male that has this situation going on, give me a call or stop by. I’d gladly to talk to you about it.”
According to the American Cancer Society, men should have their first prostate exam by age 50, but if there is family history of prostate cancer, a prostate exam is recommended at age 45.
On town issues, Quintal says:
“I’m going to be updated on the Water Master Plan next Thursday at 2 o’clock at Town Hall. I’m also monitoring the cemetery space – to be put out to bid on Route 80. So, I’m expecting an update on that within 30 days. And those are the things that I was really concerned with and some of the reasons I ran this time.”
The next meeting of the Select Board is Tuesday, September 19 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
