A Duxbury woman pleaded not guilty to charges in connection to the murders of her three children.
33-year-old Lindsay Clancy was arraigned Thursday morning in Superior Court. The remote hearing took place from Tewksbury Hospital, where Clancy is being treated. Clancy only spoke to respond “not guilty” to the charges.
She will remain at Tewksbury Hospital, and was held without bail without prejudice, which means it can be re-visited.
She is facing multiple counts of murder and strangulation in connection to the deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy.
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague says the murders were committed while Clancy’s husband was out running errands.
“She is a danger to herself and others. She planned these murders, she gave herself the time and privacy,” said Sprague. “She killed these children in their home where they should have been safe. She did so with deliberate premeditation, and extreme atrocity and cruelty.”
In January, Duxbury police responded to a home on Summer Street after a 9-1-1 call reported a suspected suicide attempt from a bedroom window. First responders located Clancy, who was treated on scene and transported to the hospital.
The three children were located in the basement, with obvious signs of trauma. Two were transported to the hospital, where they later died. Callan Clancy was medflighted to Boston Children’s
Hospital, where he was treated for several days before he passed away.
Lindsay Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, says Clancy was struggling with mental health issues and was taking a variety of medications.
“She obviously had no reason to kill those three beautiful children. You have to ask yourself; ‘why, why?’ and when you ask yourself why, and you consider all of these factors, it’s readily apparent, I suggest Judge, that this woman was a troubled soul,” said Reddington. “When the case goes to trial, I believe she has a very, very, very good defense – a very strong case.”
Clancy still has extensive injuries, and doctors say she had rib and spinal fractures, and will likely be paraplegic.
The next court date was scheduled for December 15th.
