Lucy the Golden Retriever / Scituate Animal Shelter

Look at this good girl! She’s Lucy! Our friends at Scituate Animal Shelter want to be sure you learn all about what makes Lucy unique — she is a special girl looking for a special home.

Lucy is a 1-year-old Golden Retriever looking for a home with lots of love and patience. Lucy has severe anxiety although not a mean bone in her body. She seeks out love and attention from those she loves but chooses to hide and retreat when nervous.

Lucy’s new home must have a fully fenced in yard. This is not a normal requirement for the shelter but Lucy cannot yet walk on a leash. This girl loves to run and play fetch, she will spend hours doing so! We hope you also have a chuck it handy or your arm will be sore.

Lucy’s new home must also have a young, playful dog. Lucy gets her confidence from other canines and adores playing, rough housing and chasing dogs her size. She also loves smaller dogs, but we are seeking dogs more her size for her to really “dog” with. Again, Scituate Animal Shelter does not normally have these strict standards about adoptions but Lucy needs this. Lucy will likely be fine with a confident cat who shows her who is boss.

While Lucy is great with kids of all ages, a more quiet home without frequent visitors is going to help her. Starting cars, leaf blowers or anything out of the ordinary sends her into a bit of a panic.

Lucy is currently on anxiety medication. Her new home should have a good relationship with their veterinarian to continue this after adoption. While it may not be life long, it will be necessary during her transition time and may be something she does always require.

Goldens are an amazing breed. While Lucy has many of the golden qualities, this gal is not your typical retriever. She will never be an “off leash” dog and really needs someone up for a challenge. She will shower you with love and literally smother you with hugs on the couch.

We know there is a special home out there willing to give her a chance. While her world may need to be limited and Lucy may never love car rides and long hikes, she is going to be the best friend to a dog and the humans she loves.
