Weymouth Police say a suspect was taken into custody after a standoff with SWAT teams.
Around 2:40 Wednesday afternoon, officers responded to Putnam Street for a report of a disturbance between two occupants of the home.
Police say the suspect, 38-year-old Stephen Tantillo had threatened a person there, stole some of her belongings, and was upstairs in a bedroom with another resident.
It was determined there were warrants out for his arrest on firearms charges, and that he was possibly armed with a knife.
Officers tried to enter the bedroom, and Tantillo pointed what appeared to be an assault rifle at police. They were able to remove a woman in the room, and took cover.
Tantillo barricaded himself in the room, and the MetroLEC SWAT team responded. For hours, police tried to communicate with him, but the decision was made to enter the bedroom.
Tantillo was taken into custody. It was found the rifle was a replica BB gun.
He’s charged with five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and was arrested for three default warrants on drug and firearms charges.
An arraignment was expected Thursday in Quincy District Court.
