In Cohasset, voters considered the Town Hall building project, a new police and satellite fire station, and stabilization funds at a Special Town Meeting.
By a 289-135 hand count vote, residents approved an article for $10 million to move Town Hall to 1 Pleasant Street.
Town officials estimate renovating the current Town Hall would cost more than $26 million dollars, and an article was not approved at the April Annual Town Meeting. The building at 1 Pleasant Street would move all town offices to the first floor of a building under construction, and would include 13 rental units – four affordable – on the second and third floors.
An article for $10.4 million to renovate a building at 135 King Street (Route 3A) to serve as the new police station and a sub-station for the Fire Department was approved by a two-thirds voice vote.
The creation of a stabilization fund with $800,000 to maintain and repair roadways and sidewalks was approved by a hand count, 227-85.
A $1.5 million stabilization fund for the school repairs was approved by a two-thirds voice vote.
All four articles would increase taxes under Proposition 2 ½, and are on the ballot for a special election taking place on Saturday.
Voters also approved more than $2 million in Community Preservation Projects – including funds to repair the Bancroft tennis courts and retaining wall.
A feasibility study for $400,000 was approved to assess needs at the Cohasset Middle/High School.
All articles on the warrant were approved, with the exception of Article 2, which was indefinitely postponed as there were no unpaid bills.
The Cohasset Special Town Meeting concluded in one night.
