A dog sustained injuries following a crash on Route 3A.
Cohasset Police say that shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday an on-duty officer witnessed a three-car chain reaction crash in front of 135 King Street which involved a 1995 Mack dump truck, a 2019 Toyota 4Runner, and a 2021 Land Rover.
Police say the 4Runner and Land Rover were waiting for a vehicle to turn into a driveway, when the Mack truck rear-ended the 4Runner at a high rate of speed, crushing the cargo area of the SUV.
The impact from the crash forced the 4Runner into the Land Rover and sent the Mack truck careening off the road.
Those involved suffered only minor injuries.
However, a German Shepherd dog, was inside a travel crate in the rear of the 4Runner and the crate got crushed on impact, and the dog sustained cuts and bruises.
Crews were able to free the dog from the wreckage, and he was subsequently transported to a local veterinarian by Hull Animal Control.
The dog is expected to recover fully.
The driver of the Mack truck, identified as a 65-year-old man from Weymouth, received a criminal citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to drive within marked lanes, failure to wear a seatbelt, and failure to have flares in a commercial vehicle.
In addition, the owner of the truck, identified as a Cohasset landscaping contractor, received a citation for allowing an un-inspected commercial vehicle on a public way.
All three vehicles were towed from the scene, and Route 3A was closed northbound for about 45 minutes.
