In Plymouth, Select Board is considering adding additional liquor licenses to underserved areas such as the fast growing southern part of town—and it’s an involved process.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more..
At the Select Board meeting on the 12th, a discussion about the need for additional liquor license was considered.
Town Manager Derek Brindisi:
“Selectman Bletzer discussed his idea, bringing forward an article for the spring town meeting which would result in special legislation to be drafted, that if it was approved by town meeting, we would then send this off to the state legislature for final approval.”
And Brindisi says the state has a specific formula for issuing liquor licenses:
“It’s based upon the population, so there’s a formula that the state has that, depending upon the number of people that live in a community, the town can only issue so many alcohol licenses.”
The Town Manager says the article would have to be very specific…
“…as to how many additional licenses we’re asking for, and in addition to that, Selectman Bletzer wants to determine whether or not we can specifically identify geographic locations in which those new licenses would be issued.”
This, because there was discussion at the meeting concerning growth in areas such as Redbrook:
“When we think of the southern part of town we want to insure that if we’re going to move forward in this fashion that we are providing access in those places where there is very limited access.”
