Just in case the reindeer on Santa’s sleigh are tired this year, we are willing to lend out Oreo, possibly bigger than Rudolph.
This guy is MASSIVE. When he runs, the ground shakes a little. You brace yourself for impact, knowing he will do a Great Dane smash, trying to engage you in play.
Our friends at Scituate Animal Shelter tell us when Oreo came into the shelter he was extremely fearful. It took them a bit to win him over. You can imagine a giant dog with fear can be frightening! After a bit of time and lots of chicken, Oreo now has tons of best friends and lots of people who adore him at the shelter. He is obviously extremely strong but walks really well on an easy walk harness.
Oreo has made some dog friends here and loves a good play date. He is really respectful of other pups but his large size can be intimidating! Oreo has excellent recall and knows quite a few commands.
Oreo is very thin so we are working on helping him gain weight. He has done very well on a prescription diet, it will be required for a while in the future for him too. This can be costly, given his large size and amount he eats. The shelter will be neutering Oreo and doing a gastropexy (stomach tacking). Because of this expensive procedure, Oreo’s adoption fee is $800.
Given his fearful start, we think Oreo is best suited in a more quiet home without young children.
Oreo has a history of fear aggression at the veterinarian’s office. His new home needs to have a good relationship with their vet to help Oreo.
Oreo is really a great dog! As we have gotten to know him, we have seen a very sweet, playful side. We can’t wait to watch him continue to blossom in the right home.
Open hours at the shelter are Wednesdays 1:30-6pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm for you to view adoptable pets. You can apply at the shelter during open hours or online by emailing adopt@scituateanimalshelter.org and asking for an application.
Meet and greets with animals are scheduled after applications have been processed and it’s been determined you are the best fit. SAS does not operate on a first come, first served basis.
