A New York woman is facing charges in connection with an online romance scam that cost a Plymouth County woman several hundred thousand dollars.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz announced that 42-year-old Nikeisha Lewis is charged with one count each of Larceny over $1,200, Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,200, and Money Laundering.
Prosecutors allege that the victim was scammed out of $300,000 over the course of 15 months.
The romance scam involved Lewis creating a fake profile of a man who said he was a CIA agent, and the owner of a diamond mining company. Lewis used the account to convince the victim to invest in the company, and fraudulently deposited the money into her own Wells Fargo business account.
Lewis is set to be arraigned on the charges at a later date.
