The Town of Milton has retained a law firm as they respond to state Attorney General’s Andrea Campbell lawsuit.
The Select Board released a letter earlier this week announcing that Goodwin Procter LLP has been chosen as special counsel to assist Town Counsel.
Campbell filed the lawsuit after a town-wide referendum struck down Town Meeting approval of the MBTA Communities Act which calls for zoning that expands housing units in dense areas, largely around transit stations.
The state also cut a $140,800 grant that had been awarded to the town to help design repairs to the seawall at Milton Landing.
The Select Board is asking that the state not withdraw these and other grant funds until, at the very least, the Supreme Judicial Court renders a decision in this matter.
Town officials say they “remain willing to work with the state to come up with a plan that works for Milton so that, together, we can make progress on housing in Massachusetts.”
It is expected that the Supreme Judicial Court will hear oral arguments on the Attorney General’s lawsuit in October.
