In Plymouth, the County owns a one hundred acre property off of Long Pond Road called the woodlot. The County targeted this property for a potential site for development in June of 2022 and then put out a Request for Proposal or RFP. According to County Commission Chairman Jared Valanzola, Boston South Development was the only bidder and the County awarded them a contract that has a 4 year due diligence period, in which they will pay the County a total of $450,000. On July 1st Boston South is scheduled to make a payment of $100,000.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more…
County Commission Chair Jared Valanzola says the County entered into a contract with Boston South Development…
“…that included a 4 year due diligence period, with potential for a lease extension should they be able to develop the property. The County and Boston South continue to work together and collaborate on potential uses for that property.”
Valanzola says an agreement was made through the RFP…
“…that we expect it to be an entertainment centered development. One of the things we’ve looked at earnestly is getting people into Plymouth and staying in Plymouth. Of course we know the statistic, most people spend 4 hours in Plymouth. They don’t stay— they stop on their way to the Cape or Boston.”
So Boston South and the County, Valanzola explains, are committed…
“…to creating a world class entertainment facility and recreation facility that get people in Plymouth, keep them in Plymouth and have them engage not only businesses on the woodlot, but downtown and other parts of town.”
And does that include horse racing?
“As far as my understanding is for the foreseeable future there will be no horse track on the woodlot.”
