State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine released a joint statement with Carver Fire Chief Craig F. Weston, Carver Police Chief Marc Duphily, and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz have released a joint statement regarding a deadly kitchen fire in Carver.
The fire was first reported through a 9-1-1 call just before 11:00 pm on March 20.
Firefighters arrived at the Tremont St. location to find heavy fire on the first floor and made entry to locate a person who was reported to be inside and attack the fire.
They were able to find the victim, identified as 69-year-old James Collins, and remove him from the building, but he died from his injuries.
Another occupant was injured and transported for medical care; and that person has since been released and is recovering.
An investigation determined that the fire began in the kitchen but identified multiple potential causes and for the time the cause will remain officially undetermined at this time.
However, officials say investigators found no evidence that the fire was intentionally set.
