An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside her Weymouth home on Monday.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Weymouth Chief of Police Richard Fuller identified the victim as 56-year old Christine Ruth Mello, of 34 Lake Street.

An autopsy at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner was conducted Tuesday morning and Chief Fuller and District Attorney Morrissey said that initial investigation indicates that she may have been dead for a number of days.

Mello had recently been reported as missing and her death is being investigated as an apparent homicide.

Officials say they don’t believe there is any ongoing danger to the community.
