Lightning strikes likely caused fires in two South Shore towns on Thursday with the first being reported in Kingston.
Deputy Fire Chief Adam Hatch tells WATD News that the home sustained water damage and isn’t habitable for the time being, but that things could have been far worse.
No injuries were reported.
Pembroke, Duxbury, and Plympton provided mutual aid while Halifax provided station coverage.
Crews in Plymouth were called to the scene of a fire at 12 Nicholas Ave. with lightning also cited as a cause.
Fire officials say the fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. at 2 Nicholas Ave.
Firefighters arrived on scene and saw fire and smoke coming from the eaves and roofline of the single-story, ranch-style home.
Crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading and no injuries were reported.
However, fire officials say the house sustained smoke and water damage and fire crews had to cut open an interior ceiling to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the homeowners are displaced for the time being.
The incident remains under investigation.
