Say hello to Finn and Howie! This pair of buds have become the best of friends at the Scituate Animal Shelter and while they do not need to be adopted together we wanted to feature them together for a boost!
About Finn
Finn is a 10-month-old lab looking for his new best human friend. Finn was adopted from SAS as a small puppy but his size and behavior were no longer a good fit for his home. Weighing in at 85 pounds, Finn could lose some weight but is a big guy!
Finn comes with some quirks but from what we’ve seen, is overall a friendly and goofy lab puppy. Finn is excellent with other dogs, one of the most dog-appropriate dogs we have ever met. We pictures Finn joining a home with another young lab and a fenced yard, where he can romp and play for hours.
Given his large size, he is very very strong! Even with an easy walk harness, Finn needs a strong handler. This is not to say he is aggressive or purposely naughty on leash. Finn is very eager to learn. He loves to work! He loves all treats and knows many commands too.
If you know adolescent dogs, you know 10 months is a pretty tricky age. Finn can become over stimulated with play with humans. Because of this, we are looking for an adult-only home. As mentioned above, it would be hugely beneficial for Finn to live with a playful, larger dog so he can get some of his energy out appropriately.
One of Finn’s bigger issues is his aggression at the vets’ office. Finn will need a patient vet who can work on a fear free protocol to ensure he is safe and gets medical care as needed. While this isn’t a totally uncommon in dogs, it is something that will need management and work in the future.
Finn is overall just an oversized puppy. He is looking for consistency, love and a dog best friend! We know Finn has lots of potential to make a great companion.
About Howie
While we don’t know his exact breed, we can say with confidence Howie is 100% goofball. This high energy bulldozer Pug Terrier mix will warm his way right into your heart. It’s hard not to love him!
Howie knows some commands but still needs works on basic manners. He works for treats and will make a fun project for someone. Howie never means to be a problem, he is just a young untrained pup with energy to burn!
Howie loves other dogs. He would make a great companion to another young active dog but would drive an older dog bananas. Howie is too interested in cats, no small animals in the home for him.
While this guy is friendly with all, his jumpy, sometimes mouthy ways, would be too much for little kids. He needs older, sturdy humans who can help in his training.
Howie is really a fun dog. At just about 7-months-old he has a lot to learn but will fill your home with instant love. You can’t help but smile when Howie is around.
