Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan unveiled a life-size bronze statue of the late world boxing champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler on Thursday, June 13 in downtown Brockton.
Officials, residents, fans, and members of Hagler’s family gathered in the new park bearing his name on Petronelli Way, now renamed as Marvelous Marvin Hagler Way.
The dedication takes place on the anniversary of Hagler’s induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Reverend Ortez Vandross of Brockton’s Full Gospel Tabernacle Church remembers Hagler as not only a boxer, but a philanthropist.
The statue stands near the former Petronelli Brothers Gym where Hagler trained before going on to becoming a boxing champion and movie star in the nineteen-eighties. Marvelous Marvin Hagler passed away in 2021 at the age of sixty-six.
