A Plymouth man is facing charges after a Kingston church was vandalized.
Kingston Police say that early Thursday morning they responded to First Parish Unitarian Church at 223 Main St. for reports of malicious damage.
It appeared that a suspect entered the church overnight and caused “significant damage” such as ripping off and destroying handmade 200-year-old shutters, smashing antique glass, and spraying a fire extinguisher throughout the building.
The suspect is also believed to have set fire to “Pride” and “Black Lives Matter” flags outside charring pieces of the building.
Police say the suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Jonathan White, returned to the scene and was watching officers.
When they tried to stop him he fled the scene, striking a sign in the process before being apprehended and White will be arraigned at Plymouth District Court.
Residents in the area are being asked to review their home surveillance cameras for a white 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe which has a spot light outside of the driver’s door and report any other suspicious activity by contacting Det. Lieutenant Michael Skowyra at mskowyra@kpdmass.org or 781-585-0523 ext. 6662.
