Plymouth has closed all its parks and fields on Friday from dusk to dawn until further notice due to a high risk of triple E.
Athletic leagues and organizations are prohibited from using the fields and parks beyond early evening.
Notification signs are being placed at all parks and fields.
A horse in Plymouth was recently diagnosed with mosquito-transmitted triple E. Also there have been triple E infected mosquitoes detected in Halifax and Kinsgton.
Authorities are recommending residents limit outdoor activity in the evening and wear socks and long-sleeve shirts and long pants if outdoors when it’s dark.
EPA approved repellents are recommended to be applied.
Residents are asked to remove all standing water in yards where mosquitoes can breed.
Plymouth County officials have recently been spraying neighborhoods. Per the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), Plymouth will be one of several towns within Plymouth County conducting aerial spraying due to the high risk of EEE. Aerial spraying will begin at dusk on Tuesday, August 27th.
