In Plymouth, folks suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia related illnesses often don’t know where to turn for help. And family members, who are the care-givers, don’t know where to go to get support. But there is help available for both those groups and the town’s Center for Active Living or CAL, is sponsoring a Resource Fair where folks can learn what their options are.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more…
Beth Hadfield, the Activities Coordinator at the Center for Active Living, says the event has a two-part focus:
“It is focused on the patient in some aspects because some of the people that will be at this Fair are people that can help us protect those people. And the other part is caring for the care-giver. So you have to know which resources to reach out to. So, in a sense, it covers both sides.”
And the resource agencies that will be represented at the Fair include the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department—they’ll be sharing details on senior IDs and the Safety Assurance Call program, Brewster Ambulance, Old Colony Elder Services, SafetyNet Tracking Systems and the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center.
Lindsay Reik, a social/outreach worker at CAL gets a lot of calls about the issue…
“..a lot of the calls we get are people that don’t know what the next step is, don’t know who to call next is, don’t know where to start”
And in that case, a good place to start is the Center for Active Living on August 13th when the Alzheimer’s & other Dementia-Related Disease Resource Fair will take place from 4 to 6 PM. There is no charge for this event.
