Sweet Gigi is looking for a patient and kind home, preferably with other animal friends already living there, as Gigi LOVES playing with other dogs- and even cats- but can be a little shy and timid around humans. This all makes sense considering Gigi’s back story: Gigi is of the Portuguese Podengo breed, which is a sight hound family. They are bred for rabbit hunting so Gigi spent the first part of her life living outside in a rabbit hutch. Gigi just did not excel in rabbit hunting as much as her owner liked, so she was given up to Furget Me Not Organization.
Gigi is 4 years old and weighs about 34 pounds. Looking at her, you notice her beautiful sandy coat and huge ears that can stand on the top of her hand. She really is a beautiful girl. Her breed is similar to the Greyhound breed and they are notorious for being a shyer, skittish breed of dog. Gigi is the epitome of these personality traits so she really needs someone who can understand her nature and possibly have another dog friend to play with in the house. She is house trained and needs to be leashed while walking so she doesn’t run off.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that’s a friend and resource to people and animals alike! We run entirely off of donations and 100% of donations go towards animal care such as vetting, grooming, food and supplies. We hope to keep pets with their owners whenever possible and when that’s best for the animal(s) and families through our pet owner assistance programs.
When rehoming is needed, we are licensed in Massachusetts as a foster based rescue and able to accept surrendered pets into our foster program to then be adopted. We do not charge a surrender fee for pet(s), and we pride ourselves on having a judgement free and easy surrender process as well as a “foster to adopt” practice.
Our Mission : To provide rehoming resources to local animal control officers and pet owners with a focus on hunting breeds, seniors, and special needs pets.
All pets are evaluated medically and behaviorally before being placed in foster homes and placed up for adoption. Dogs and cats go to potential adopter’s homes on a foster or “trial” basis to begin with. We supply everything that they need to get started so there is no upfront cost. We provide the guidance and support needed to have a successful experience for both you and the pet. Depending on the pet, you may find out whether it’s a good fit or not within a few days or it may take weeks. Regardless, our goal is to make sure it’s a good match and that both you and the pet are happy. We pride ourselves on a streamlined foster to adopt process and are committed to being matchmakers.
All animals that come into our organization go into foster homes to begin with. We supply everything that they need to get started. We provide the guidance and support needed to have an enjoyable experience for both you and the pet. We are always in need of foster homes and sometimes those foster homes turn into adopters. Or you may be thinking of adopting and we then suggest you “Foster to Adopt.” The foster period could last a week or more. Our goal is to make sure it’s a good fit for you and the pet before you officially adopt. We are proud of our streamlined foster to adopt process and are committed to being pretty great matchmakers (if we do say so ourselves!) The majority of the dogs that come to us are from Massachusett’s hunters who no longer want their hunting dogs. These dogs have never been in a home before and rewuire some extra TLC. Foster homes are integral to getting all dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs into adoptable homes.
