Driver Hurt in Abington Train Crash
— WATD 95.9 News & Talk Radio, South Shore Massachusetts
One person was injured when an MBTA commuter train collided with an SUV on the North Avenue railroad crossing in Abington Monday afternoon.
The crash happened at about three-thirty. It was reported that the car rolled down an embankment after being struck by the train.
The driver, a 45-year-old woman, was conscious and alert, and had to be extricated by firefighters. She was transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center. No one on the train was injured.
There was a delay on the Kingston line and shuttle buses were used between Weymouth and Whitman. The crash resulted in the area of North Avenue, Railroad Street and Birch Street being closed to traffic while investigators worked to determine what led to the collision.
Officials say the crossing gates were operating at the time of the crash.
