Meet our Pet of the Week, Callie

by | Dec 1, 2024 | Pet of the Week

You can’t help but have your heart break a little bit when you hear the story of Callie: she was loving life with her previous owner but unfortunately her dad got sick and he was unable to care for her. Callie is only 5 years old and she is looking forward to being with a new family for the later years of her life. CARE Southcoast has been able to place her in a Foster home for now and her Foster parents love her – “and they say she is the sweetest, funniest girl ever”.

Callie would do best in a home with no other dogs or cats, but she is totally fine with adults and children older than 10. She is a very sweet and playful girl but can get a tad bit nervous when new people come by. Callie is really taking everything in stride though considering her life got upended overnight.

If you are looking for an animal friend that is the perfect combination of couch potato, playful pal, and affectionate lover – then Callie is your girl! She is house-trained, up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and has a larger stature so she is a great cuddle buddy! Her hobbies include eating snacks, going for car rides, enjoying her toys, and running around the yard.

If you are reading this and feel like your heart has gone from heartbroken to stolen, then please inquire about adopting Callie asap. She needs a loving home and is looking forward to meeting her future forever owner(s).

Mission Statement:

CARE Southcoast is a volunteer-run, no-kill, 501c3 animal rescue/shelter servicing the Southcoast region of Massachusetts. All our dogs are in foster care, while cats can be visited at our shelter in Acushnet, MA. We also keep most kittens and some special needs cats in foster care. We focus our efforts on pets that wouldn’t do well in traditional shelters. Our mission extends to the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) of feral cats, training of dogs with behavioral challenges, and education to avoid rehoming of owned animals.

What makes CARE unique is that our volunteers take in older animals, sick animals, and animals with behavioral issues that would not make it in a traditional shelter. CARE caters to the population of animals that others find not worthy of life. CARE sees the diamonds in the rough, the tail wags beneath the sad eyes, and rehabs the animals back to being happy, healthy, confident family pets who bring so much joy to their families.

Along with our sheltering and adoption programs, CARE provides basic medical support to these same animals along with helping feral cats and low income folks who would not otherwise be able to keep their pets. In cases where people have found themselves temporarily homeless, we have provided shelter for their pets until they have been reunited with their owners. Most of these pets would have ended up on the streets or euthanized. Imagine losing your furry family member as well as your home!

On behalf of the homeless pets we have saved and continue to save, please accept our heartfelt gratitude and thanks.

We hope you will support our mission of not giving up on any animal no matter how hopeless their situation may be. We are their voice when no one else is there.

Needs:

FOSTER HOMES are always needed for homeless pets that come into our program. This is a great way to help if you are unable to make a lifetime commitment to a pet.

SUPPLIES are always in demand: scoopable litter, dry and wet cat and dog food, towels, paper towels, bedding, laundry detergent, PetAg Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) powder. Please contact us about how to donate supplies.

MONETARY DONATIONS to help cover medical bills and the cost of care for our shelter and foster animals are what we need most. CARE is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and as such, your contribution is tax-deductible. In addition to donating online, you may send donations to: CARE Southcoast, P.O. Box 149, E. Freetown, MA 02717, paypal to:caresouthcoast1@gmail.com or venmo to : CARE,Southcoast
