We are looking for a bit of a Christmas miracle when it comes to finding Owen a forever home. Unfortunately, Owen’s 6 year life has been filled with some hard and traumatic moments so his future owner needs to be extra special and patient.
Understanding Owen’s story is important as it helps explain why Owen is such a sensitive pup. He was born into a puppy mill and adopted out of it at 6 months. This means Owen has spent most of his adult life in a crate, resulting in very minimal training throughout his life. A quiet, peaceful home is what would work best for Owen since he does get overstimulated in busy environments. It is not recommended Owen share a home with children or other pets as he can be reactive if feeling threatened. The problem here though is that it is difficult to gauge what Owen perceives to be a threat or not. His reactions can be deemed explosive but Owen does not bite and there hasn’t been a situation where his teeth made contact with human skin. He is just lacking confidence so it can be a delicate situation with Owen sometimes.
Now let’s talk about Owen’s strengths. He LOVES to be walked on a leash, getting a good brush for his furry coat, and engaging in a cuddling session. Owen just needs time to become comfortable and he will be your best buddy.
If you have experience with a skittish, low confidence dog and you have time, love and patience to give to a dog that is so deserving of a real home and a happy life, then please contact
adopt-owen@quincyanimalshelter.org to meet Owen – by appointment only.

Fees and Donations:
Owen’s adoption fee is $375.
Your non-refundable adoption fee helps us to continue our high level of care for all the animals. QAS accepts cash and credit cards.
All Quincy Animal Shelter residents are current on vaccinations appropriate for their age before being cleared for adoption. All of our animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted. Kittens are spayed/neutered when they reach a minimum weight of 2 lbs. and are at least 8 weeks old.
Please read these adoption considerations here before considering adoption
All adopters must agree:
To provide a loving home, including proper medical care and humane treatment at all times.
The animal will not be used for experimentation or be sold.
Dogs will not be allowed off leash outdoors except in a completely fenced in area.
The animal will receive annual veterinary checkups that include rabies vaccinations as required by law.
Dogs will be licensed annually as required by local law.
If for any reason the adopter needs to give up the animal, it will be returned to Quincy Animal Shelter.
Ownership of the animal will be terminated if at any time the adopter does not live up to these terms.
Quincy Animal Shelter does not sell animals. Adoption donations are tax-deductible, voluntary contributions, and are not refundable under any circumstances.
We always try to foster kittens out/away from the shelter. We are always looking for Foster Care Volunteers. It is usually a 5 to 8 week period. We provide food, litter and medical care. We also take care of the adoptions. All you need is a separate area from your own animals and some TLC. We would prefer that you live in the Quincy area. In case of medical emergency, we like to have people who live nearby and could transport the animal to either the shelter or one of the area vets used by QAS. If you are interested, please click here for more information.
Quincy Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and a recognized Massachusetts charity. QAS EIN is 31-1703439.
Your donation to QAS may qualify for an income tax deduction in accordance with Federal and/or State income tax laws. Please consult with your tax advisor to determine whether your donation is tax deductible in whole or in part.
