A Whitman man is being charged with stealing packages.
Whitman Police say that in early December they began receiving reports of package thefts at an apartment complex on Marble Street that went back to early September.
During the course of an investigation they determined that at least eight thefts were committed by the same person.
On December 18th police set up a surveillance operation which included a “bait” package that appeared to be a laptop box.
A man, later identified as 41-year-old Colin Mackie, enter the building and steal three packages, including the bait package.
He was taken into custody and police say they found additional evidence consistent with past thefts.
Mackie was arraigned Wednesday in Brockton District Court on charges of Breaking and Entering a Building During the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony and Larceny From a Building.
Police also say that additional charges are expected once the investigation is concluded.
Anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a package theft is being asked to contact the Whitman Police Department at 781-447-1212.
