The Commonwealth has a new U.S. Attorney.

Acting Attorney General James McHenry has named Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Belaire Foley as the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

Foley has been a federal prosecutor for 23 years, first serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, before joining the District of Massachusetts office in 2006.

Among her assignments was Deputy Chief of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit, and Lead Attorney for Boston’s Organized Crime & Drug Enforcement Task Force since 2013.

She was sworn in on Tuesday, replacing former U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy who announced his departure earlier this month.
