In Plymouth this week, on the 3rd, State Senator Dylan Fernandes spoke at the Center for Active Living or CAL, the town’s senior center, and seniors in attendance raised many concerns, one of them: 40B developments in town.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more…
State Senator Dylan Fernandes:
“It was a great discussion. I think people are concerned about transportation access, federal funding around the Cape bridges, the interconnectivity of the Town of Plymouth, which is the biggest town in the Commonwealth, by far, environmental concerns around water quality.”
40B housing development was raised as an issue. Participants mentioned, the Oasis, a 40B development behind Home Depot, off of Long Pond Road. This housing complex, when fully built out, will consist of 6 four-story buildings, 13 garage buildings and 649 parking spaces. Builders of 40B developments can bypass local zoning requirements if they make at least 25% of their units affordable.
Communities where the housing supply is less than 10% affordable cannot deny 40B projects. Plymouth is now at about half that amount at 4.88%.
And, about that issue Senator Fernandes told the group:
“We work to try to tweak 40B in the Legislature and make it more accessible, less onerous on communities. We’re going to continue to push for that.”
Senator Fernandes reminds folks that he’s available to hear their concerns:
“If people need help with anything, you know to reach out to our office.”
The Senator’s Plymouth office is in building 10 at Cordage Park.
