The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for much of southern New England that goes into effect Monday into Tuesday.

The combination of scorching temperatures and tropical-feeling air will make it feel like it’s over 100 degrees.

Marshfield Harbormaster Mike DiMeo, who is filling in for Lt. Artie Shaw of Marshfield Emergency Management, says there will be four locations open for folks to go to beat the heat.

Officials provide some tips on how to beat the heat.

  • Drink plenty of water — even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcoholic beverages and liquids high in sugar or caffeine. If your doctor generally limits the amount of fluid you drink, ask how much you should drink during hot weather.
  • Stay indoors as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun. Do not leave pets outside for extended periods of time.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle. Even with the windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise almost 20°F within 10 minutes.
