A 17-year-old driver was injured after his car collided with an MBTA Greenbush commuter train in Hingham.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon on Summer Street at the Nantasket Junction rail station.

Hingham Police Lieutenant Steven Dearth says that the driver of a 2025 Tesla drove past traffic that was stopped for the passing train, around the raised median strip onto the wrong side of the road, and struck the side of the oncoming train.

Dearth said the crossing gates were down and the warning lights were flashing at the time of the incident.

The train stopped nearby. No one on the train was injured.

Hingham firefighters treated the driver and secured the damaged electric car.

The driver remained in the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still being investigated.
