One woman has died following an early morning fire in Middleborough.

Fire officials say that shortly before 3 a.m. Monday they responded to reports of a fire at 72 Everett St.

Upon arrival, crews found flames showing from multiple windows on the first floor of the two-story, multi-family home and a second alarm was struck.

Three of the home’s occupants were able to exit the building.

However, upon entering the home firefighters encountered a 91-year-old woman who was unable to flee and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Fire officials say they were able to knock the fire down within 30 minutes with Raynham, Bridgewater, Lakeville, and Carver providing mutual aid, while Wareham provided station coverage.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Middleborough Fire Department, State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
