A two-alarm fire damaged a guest house in Duxbury at 307 Congress Street late Monday morning.

Duxbury Fire Chief Rob Reardon says the fire building was fairly large about 20 by 30 feet with cathedral ceilings.

Heavy smoke and fire were showing upon arrival. A second alarm was sounded bringing firefighters from Pembroke, Kingston, Hanson, Plympton, Hanover, and Marshfield to assist.

Firefighters were told there were cats inside the guest house but after conducting a search it was determined they safely escaped.

No injuries reported and damage is estimated at around $300,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chief Reardon says that it may have started outside the building in the pool pump area.
