It wasn’t the cleanest game on Thursday night, but the Hanover Hawks still escaped an upset bid from the Pembroke Titans 48-40.

Now back to .500, and perhaps more importantly 1-0 in league play, the Hawks still have everything in front of them as they look to make a third straight trip to the Division 5 Final Four.

It will be challenging, to be sure. The injury bug has already bitten Hanover in a big way. Starting quarterback Collin Arnold went down for the season a few plays into the Hawks second game. Hanover hasn’t played with a full cast in weeks.

Still, players have stepped up. Junior Max Morin has filled in seamlessly at quarterback, breaking out with a 368 yard, three touchdown passing performance against Pembroke.

Defensively, a strong cast of returning starters have helped along younger players thrust into more pronounced roles.

Captains Peter Clarke, Jaydon Yoo, and Sebastian Brown have anchored that side of the ball, with the latter one half of a two-headed monster on offense as well.

With skill up and down the lineup, and a league win already under their belt, Hanover is ready to make their charge for the Fisher title once again.
